Day 2 of the cleanse. Note: after eating kale chips, your tongue turns green. In case you were wondering. And we all know that it's not easy being green. And it's not easy altering your food intake to a raw food, vegetable and fruit based diet.
I decided that maybe I needed to increase the protein content and headed to Wegmans to see what kind of whey powder might be available. Day one's trip to Walmart was a complete FAIL for protein/whey powder. Couldn't believe how much sugar and chemicals goes into the "weight-lifting" protein powder. Wegaman's had a much better selection and found one with Organic, grass fed protein whey without added sugar or flavoring! Success. After adding this powder to the shakes, definitely noticed a slight increase in energy. Slight.
And it turns out, kale chips are the bomb! They taste just like potato chips. Well, not really. But since it's the closest thing I'm gonna get to junk food on this cleanse, kale chips might be my new favorite food for the next 21 days.
I decide to eat a lot more green veggies and try to sneak them in all day long. Brocoli, snap peas, red leaf lettuce, more kale...you get the idea.
Day 3: OK, dear reader. This cleanse is going just OK. I know what you must be thinking: that I am going to the potty a lot. Interestingly, that's not the case. I won't get into specifics because I'm sure you really don't want to know. Isn't that nice of me?
I was inspired yesterday to head out in the open a take a brief bike ride. My husband fixed my 10-speed bike that I won as a door prize ages ago. When I first got it, I took it to a bike shop to have it assembled and the tire kept rubbing against the brake and the gears were really tight. The shop owner kept telling me it was fine and they couldn't adjust it so I got frustrated and didn't ride much. Then Dave told me he could probably fix it and he did. So I got on the bike and I was amazed at how easily the tires and pedals all worked. Granted, I'm out of shape, but I was still able to take a nice leisurely bike ride for maybe a mile or so. Felt leg muscles burning.
I'm pretty hungry, but what else is new? Maybe I'll make some kale chips.

Day 1, Introduction and Notes on Day 1 of 21 Day Clense
Thanks for taking this journey with me, dear reader. As you might guess, it isn't easy staying on track and staying HONEST with yourself when it comes to weight loss or change for that matter.
I hit my breaking point about two weeks ago after a Segway accident (maybe topic for another entry in the future). I had been struggling with weight up until that point. Then the Segway accident just put me over the edge--on the scale! The trauma from falling down a rocky hillside with a 160 pound Segway attached to my hands and landing on my tailbone caused not only physical pain, but massive swelling. Boom. Instant 12 pound weight gain. I kid you, not. Twelve freaking pounds!
So suffice it to say, when I stepped on the scale, I was horrified! Maybe some day I'll come back and edit this post and share with you what that number was, but the truth is, I'm just completely ashamed! I know at some point I will be OK with where I was, but at this point, I'm thinking, "I'm OK with where I am headed," and that is to a place with a healthy body weight and overall wellness.
Another confession, since we're being honest here--I just don't exercise the way I should. I mean, I go for walks here and there, pound up and down the stairs cleaning on a daily basis. But I don't make that designation of taking time out of my day for exercise. I just haven't found the exercise that I look forward to each day. To me, exercise is just a sweaty, embarrassing project. I get tired easily and feel like such a loser most of the time just getting through 15 lousy minutes. I've tried the gym, a personal trainer, exercise videos and programs, zumba classes and biking. I actually LOVED the zumba instructor Shakira's method and routines at Eclipse fitness but after she left, I couldn't follow any of the other instructors. Each class by the new instructors were completely over my head! I also got completely miffed about something else regarding my personal training sessions at Eclipse, so that was it for me.
At one time, I loved line dancing. I still do, but I don't go too much since I don't know enough of the new dances and a lot of times, wind up watching from the sidelines. And no, the whole sweaty thing just doesn't work for me when at a dance club. I feel so gross! And I know I just need to get over it because I realize nobody really cares if I'm sweaty except me.
I guess it is safe to say that I haven't found a physical activity that I enjoy enough to continue on an ongoing basis. But I digress.
Anyway, fast forward to today and I'm starting the 21 Day Cleanse.
This morning, no coffee, sadly. Just decaf green tea. This cleanse calls for 2-3 shakes made with this powder that comes in the kit. I cut up strawberries, watermelon, a peach, add 2 tablespoons of the power and 1 tablespoon of flax seed oil and blend with about a dozen ice cubes and thin it out a little with some ice water. It needs veggies, so I throw in some Russian kale and whip it more. Hmmm..It's still thick, but doesn't taste half bad, so I decide to eat it with a spoon instead of drinking it like a shake. I also take the supplements as required. Two hours later, I'm really hungry so I eat a banana.
Come lunch time, I'm a little hungry and decide to make the lentils, which this program specifically recommends. So I whip up the lentils, which turns out, take about 45 minutes to cook. I'm going to have to find something else to eat while they are cooking. I pop a yam into the microwave and eat half of it without salt, sugar or butter. Not so bad. Then I make a tossed salad with red leaf lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes. No dressing. Lastly, I juice about 9 carrots into the juicer and throw in some arugula that looks like it won't make it another day in the fridge and add 2 tbs of the powder.
Update 6:44pm...Felt extremely tired all day. May go to store and purchase whey powder for additional protein. I'm using the "daily free" version of the powder and clearly, this girl needs some protein. Ate a half-cup of the lentils about three hours ago. I know lentils have protein in them, but it's not cutting it. An hour ago, ate some grapes. Took a nap around 4:30 for an hour. Feel drained.
